Common candle ingredients known or suspected to cause bodily harm that you will never find in our candles:
Mutagens: Agents (physical or chemical) that alter the genetic constitution, usually DNA, of a cell. Mutagens are linked to a host of diseases including cancer.
Phthalates: 75% of candles contain these salts or esters of phthalic acid. They are linked to breast, liver, and other cancers, disruption of hormone activity, reproductive malformation, diabetes, and obesity.
Organ Toxins: Chemicals that adversely effect specific organs or organ systems (e.g. respiratory toxins, cardiovascular toxins, immuno toxins, dermal toxins etc.).
Carcinogens: These are materials known or thought to cause cancer, including everything on Prop. 65. If a chemical is thought to cause cancer in CA, it isn't any safer elsewhere. Most commercial candles contain these in the form of paraffin wax or various components in their fragrance oil.
Acute Toxins: Highly dangerous chemicals or biological substances that cause adverse effects from either a single exposure or a series of exposures within 24 hours.
Trimming your wick before every burn, is imperative as it helps assure your candle flame doesn't become too big resulting in hazard. If flame is too big, extinguish the flame, trim wick and relight.
- When lighting for the first time allow the wax to melt to the edge of the glass.
- Allow your candle to burn for at least 2 hours on first use.
- Trim your candle wick before each use.
- Burn for a maximum of 4 hours at a time.
- Always keep the candle away from children and pets.
- Extinguish only with the the appropriate tools, to prevent excess smoke and wax splatter.
- Coconut wax can sometimes have a small amount of wax left unburned on the sides of the candle vessel. This is a normal burning characteristic of coconut wax. As your candle continues to burn, the wax on the side will melt, completing your candles burning experience.
- Coconut waxes can sometimes change from a bright white color to light beige once being burned, depending on the type of fragrance oil being used. Additionally (sometimes), the natural tannins from the wood wick can slightly discolor the wax. This is normal.
- Candles should NEVER burn longer than 4 hours at a time. However, to gain a longer burn time: extinguish the candle. Then, let it re-harden. After your candle has hardened again, re-light again.
